1 loaf (1 pound) white bread, day-old, unsliced
1/2 pound American cheese, grated
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 tablespoons onion, grated
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon celery seed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. trim crusts from top, sides and ends of bread. Slice vertically in thirds lengthwise; be careful not to cut through bottom crust! Slice vertically about 1 ½ inches apart crosswise. The loaf will have a checkerboard appearance from the top. Combine cheese, ¼ cup of the butter, onion, Worcestershire sauce, and celery seed. Spread between all the slices. Brush top and sides of loaf on a cookie sheet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until cheese mixture is melted and light golden brown. Serve warm. To freeze, wrap unbaked bread in heavy-duty foil. When ready to serve, thaw and brush generously with melted butter. Bake as directed.
